SOJOURN: Joint exhibition featuring artists Wee Hong-Ling and Yap Lay Bee in Singapore after London Olympics showcase

Singapore, 27 March 2013 – Following their showcase at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, award-winning ceramist Dr Wee Hong-Ling and photographer Yap Lay Bee are showing their works in a joint exhibition in Singapore for the first time. The Arts House will present the exhibition Sojourn from 4 to 21 April.

REBORN.FULLSTOP.. A FAREWELL PERFORMANCE BY ECNAD

Singapore, 25 March 2013 – Reborn.Fullstop.. marks local dance company ECNAD’s 17th anniversary celebration as well as farewell performance. This double bill is a special collaboration with The Arts House, a longtime partner of ECNAD. The dance company, known for its site-specific, cross-disciplinary performances, boasting strong visuals imbued with an innovative creative spirit, was set up by cofounders Lim Chin Huat and Tan How Choon as Dance Dimension Project in 1996. It was renamed as ECNAD in 2001.

THE ARTS HOUSE IS LITERALLY 9!

Singapore, 28 February 2013 – Award-winning playwright Jean Tay, prolific Chinese picture book illustrator and writer Lee Kow Fong, renowned dancer/writer Tammy Wong and master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran will headline Literally 9 this March, The Arts House’s anniversary festival to celebrate its 9th birthday. They will lead more than 60 writers and artists to take part in the three-week-long festival based on the theme, Writers Party.

SILENT SERMON BY SANJAY KUMAR

Singapore, 22 February 2013 – Audience in Singapore will be the first outside of India to catch Indian artist Sanjay Kumar’s solo exhibition Silent Sermon, a series of paintings and installations inspired by Buddha and his life. The exhibition will be held at The Arts House from 1 to 10 March.

Translation Matters: Inaugural Translation Symposium Takes Place in Singapore

A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL COMEDY SHOW FEATURING PAUL WILBAUM

FRAME X FRAME

Frame x Frame is a quarterly programme that features first-run screenings of new films as well as retrospectives of noted filmmakers. It will kick off its inaugural season this October by spotlighting Wee Li Lin, one of Singapore’s most original and talented writers/directors, with a mini-retrospective. Other talented filmmakers who are making their theatrical debuts include Yong Mun Chee with Where The Road Meets The Sun in November (16-25 Nov) and Lai Weijie and Elizabeth Wijaya with I Have Loved in December (8-15 Dec).

THE ARTS HOUSE RESIDENT WRITER CONCLUDES YEARLONG RESIDENCY

UK poet Jay Bernard has concluded her yearlong appointment as the Resident Writer of The Arts House and NUS University Scholars Programme (USP) Creative Writing Residency. Her chapbook, English Breakfast, a collection of poetry and literary works produced during her stint, will be published and launched during the Singapore Writers Festival in November.
