EVENT INFO
CITA: SASTERA & SENI
Genre:
Literary Arts
Presented by The Arts House & NUS Department of Malay Studies
Cita is a unique opportunity for Singaporeans to learn more about Singapore’s Malay literary and artistic heritage. The audience will hear from respected academics, well-known writers, and talented performers in the Malay community and gain insights into Malay culture. While the main discursive segments (bichara) will be delivered in Malay, the commentaries (komentari) will be in English for a bilingual experience. The performances (astaka) following the talks will then highlight the rich artistry of Malay poetry and music.
Cita’s May 2012 lecture will feature Encik Nadiputra, a Cultural Medallion winner for Drama in 1986, who will deliver a lecture entitled Teater Melayu dan Mesej Sosialnya (Malay Theatre and its Social Messages). The lecture is in Malay, followed by a commentary by Mdm Kartini Anwar, who is a Teaching Fellow of Asian Languages and Cultures in National Institute of Education Singapore. After lunch, students from Bukit Panjang Government High School will present a theatrical performance.
Cita: Sastera & Seni is supported by the Malay Language and Learning Promotion Council, the Singapore Malay Language Council, and the Malay Heritage Foundation.
