DANG ANUM: A BANGSAWAN PERFORMANCE

Genre: Dance,Music,Theatre

Organised by: The Old Parliament House Pte Ltd
Supported by: The Arts House, Asian Civilisations Museum

For two nights only! Relive the magic, enchanting music and stunning colours of the past in this gripping retelling of the touching tale of Dang Anum, daughter of Sang Rajuna Tapa – A faithful minister of Sultan Iskandar Shah, ruler of Singapore from 1399 to 1402 – by the only exclusive bangsawan troupe in Singapore, Sri Angerrik Bangsawan! This Malay opera performance is a tribute to troupe’s founder, the late Haji Hamid Ahmad.

Regenerating Communities @ Empress Place is a special three-part arts and culture initiative conceived by The Old Parliament House Limited, which manages The Arts House. The initiative which entails free programmes, draws on Singapore’s rich cultural heritage by featuring mainly traditional art forms – their personalities and masters, once well-known but now near forgotten. Artistically curated by Jeremiah Choy, these rare performances aim to revitalize and reaffirm Empress Place a s a place of heritage. For this third installment, we bring back to you the glamour of Bangsawan, a very popular form of entertainment in Singapore in the 20’s & 30’s.
