Singapore Writers Festival

The annual Singapore Writers Festival (SWF) features the world's major literary talents. One of Asia’s premier literary events, and one of the few in the world that is multi-lingual (focused on the official languages of Singapore – English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil), SWF will return from 2 to 11 November 2012.

SWF Fringe 2012: The Origins of Desire
The Singapore Writers Festival organises a Fringe component for the first time. Held at The Arts House, it will explore The Origins of Desire. The SWF Fringe seeks to examine the different facets of desire in the literary arts, and the manifestation of sexuality in books, films, performances and the visual arts. The Fringe programmes will explore the historical as well as socio-cultural significance of desire and sexuality in literature. Literary Meals

Country Focus - Middle East
The Singapore Writers Festival takes a closer look at the Middle East in its regional focus programme this year. The Middle East has been going through many major political upheavals over the years, and most recently the Arab Spring movement has impacted different countries in profound ways. The Festival has invited five writers from the region to discuss how literature and the arts have transformed or been transformed by all these changes.
