Making a Living through Music and Various Mentorship stuff
Many people today make a living through various arts and music programs that they are talented at; such as painting, in music, in drama etc. it all boils down to have good training and mentorship activities; which will get you exposed and know more about the skills that you possess.
In 2010 while still in high school, I was lucky to be among a group of local youth; they were given a chance to be mentored by experienced music teachers and choreographers from my county. The opportunity came at a time when I had been trying so hard to find someone to help me develop as well as enhance my music career.
I never fathomed that I would get a chance for such an exciting opportunity
This was co-sponsored by several media outlets; as well as local companies as they tried to help young musician develop their musical talents. Therefore, I was a bit nervous when I went for the auditions. Nonetheless, I had a poor presentation that day. This was because of my stage fright. After I was through with it, I was certain that I was out of the competition. However, as I was leaving the stage, one of the panelists mentioned something about my voice that she found unique; and given a better chance. Maybe I would one day become a great artiste…
Howbeit, I never thought much about it; since I knew how badly I had performed. Hence less chances of getting the opportunity. Therefore when I got a call after a week instructing me on the date that we should meet with other; since I had been enrolled for the program. I became very excited. It wasn’t something that I had anticipated. But here was the golden opportunity to redeem my image.
Nurturing a Talent in Arts
It was a program that I got involved in for the next six months of rigorous training as well as mentorship. We had various trainers during this time; some for helping us with our vocals. Also, dancing and playing various music accompaniments. Also during that period; we got to meet other guest speakers in the music industry who spoke to us about music production, as well as how to make a career in music. They also discussed with us the benefits of networking; so as to become more popular and to be able to make it.
After the set period, we all graduated. During the ceremony; we had various guests from the ministry of heritage; as well as other government officials and representatives of the sponsoring brands. We had prepared a special performance for the event; which was so electrifying such that the sponsors decided to sponsor us to produce the various songs that we had prepared us a whole team. Some of them became sensational after they were released.
However, I had to go to college to further my studies and my music dreams were somehow temporary halted. There were some participants in my group who did exemplary well in their music career why I was still in college and I really envied them.
Pursuing my Dreams in Music
However, it was one hit single of a fellow participant who I had grown fond of that made me come to my senses. She wasn’t one of the best during the mentorship process. But I realized that she had grown more popular with her fans. She made me realize that I had just wasted the efforts of those who came together to support the mentorship process; a chance maybe given to someone else who have benefited that person more that it did to me.
There while in my third year in college, I decided to work on my first album. The album may have taken more time than I presumed. The reason was because I still have studies that I need to take seriously. But this being my final year in college; I will ensure that I’m through with it before I graduate. The production company that I’m working with feels that I have some very good songs recorded. Also, believe that they will garner immediate success upon release. I want to proof those who mentored me that arts can provide a good career to anybody.
